Supporting a teenager or young adult can be rewarding, but it can also be confusing and exhausting. You may find yourself wondering: Is this normal? Am I helping or making things worse? Should I push them or back off? What do I say? What do I do? Essentially, it is the delicate balance two competing needs: being there for them while also helping them become independent.
Parent Support Sessions provide a space for you to talk through what’s happening and get professional guidance - without your teen or young adult needing to be in the room.
What can I expect?
In a Parent Support Session, we can step back from the immediate situation and look at the bigger picture. We can explore what may be contributing to your child's difficulties, consider different ways of responding, and develop practical strategies for communicating and supporting them.
Sometimes a parent session is a one-time consultation. Other times, parents benefit from ongoing support as their child works through a particular challenge. If you're concerned about your teen or young adult, feeling stuck in how to respond, or simply want some guidance, a parent consultation can be a helpful place to start.
Our goal isn't to tell you how to parent. It's to help you better understand what's happening and feel more confident about what to do next.
