When a teen or young adult is struggling, it isn't always obvious what's behind it. Maybe school has always felt harder than it seems like it should. Maybe they're bright and capable but can't seem to get organized, stay focused, or keep up. Maybe anxiety, perfectionism, or emotional struggles are getting in the way. Or perhaps you're wondering whether there is more going on beneath the surface. A psychological assessment can provide a clearer picture of how a young person thinks, learns, manages emotions, and experiences the world.
Every assessment, whether or not it results in a formal diagnosis, comes with a comprehensive report and list of recommendations to help you or your teen moving forward. We provide an easy to understand, transparent process with clear timelines. Assessments can make a big difference in managing mental health, and we are committed to providing accurate, timely results.
What can I expect?
A Psychoeducational Assessment occurs in several steps, which are outlined below:
Initial Intake: a one hour session with the client and at least one parent/guardian
Behavioural Questionnaires: these are emailed after the intake and include Client Self-Report Questionnaires, Parent Report Questionnaires, and Teacher Report Questionnaires
Cognitive Testing: a 1-2 hour session between the client and the administering psychologist
Academic Testing: a 2-3 hour session between the client and the administering psychologist
Interpretation and Report Writing: the psychologist analyzes and interprets the results and puts together your report. This takes 6-8 weeks from the time of Academic Testing. Outstanding Behavioural Questionnaires can delay the process.
Debrief Session: a one hour session with the client and at least one parent/guardian to go over the report and answer any questions you may have.
*NOTES:
Additional screeners and testing may also be added as appropriate, including screening for Autism Spectrum Disorder and Performance Testing, which provides additional insight into ADHD-related struggles (*this is included in the assessment cost).
We do not offer full diagnostic ASD assessments at this time.
What is the Cost?
Psychoeducational Assessments are charged at a flat rate of $2500. This includes all testing, interpretation of results, report writing, and debrief meeting. The initial intake session is charged separately at $235.
